I'm currently operating a pop-up candle + paper flower shop in DC but in the post-Valentine's flower sale frenzy, I picked up a few bundles of real carnations from the grocery store on Sunday - Winter Sunday Blossoms. :) So on a rainy Tuesday in my shop, I did a little flower arranging in recycled candle containers that some awesome customers brought back to me. (We've got a new candle recycling program now.)
So I love carnations. They're simple, they last and they're beautiful both in big bunches and in sets as little as three. I have this theory about carnations - they're the every woman flower. They're accessible. They're pretty. But they're not the giant peonies of rich SAHM blogger life. I love these. They make me think of my grandmother who was an incredibly creative woman who worked hard and appreciated the beauty in life. They remind me of her and women like her. Carnations and Paisleys. Which look a lot like carnations.
