Silver Spring

Summer Blossoms

Here's my secret flower spot: Suttler Post Farm that you can find on Saturdays at the

Silver Spring FreshFarm Market

+ Sundays at the

Takoma Park Farmer's Market

. We picked up a lot of their flowers for our wedding head table as well. Beautiful cuts of flowers blooming wild and free. Getting these is my absolute favorite weekend activity. In fact, a weekend is just not so without getting some of these.

Coffee Break: Kaldi's Coffee Bar

Kaldi's Coffee Bar

, one of the local spots that I like to inhabit when I need a little change of scenery. I'm hooked on the soy lattes and almond croissants. Also, all the light fixtures are upside down coffee mugs + saucers, something that

pointed out, of course. The space is filled with heavy wooden furniture which really makes it feel like you're sitting in a huge tree trunk. I love it. It reminds me of this huge tree in the woods of my old house where you could walk in the trunk. It could fit an adult easily, though we did that mostly when we were small kids.

Our family is from Ethiopia, where coffee originated centuries ago. As legend has it, an Ethiopian goat herder named Kaldi noticed his young bucks bouncing with enthusiasm after nibbling on the bright red berries of a wild plant in the highland forests. Curious about why his goats so relished these berries, Kaldi ate a few himself andfelt energized. He brought the berries home and several stories later, a tasty cup of coffee was brewed.

Market Scenes

From a few weeks ago at

the market (Fenton Street Market, my home market)

. There's a great farmer's market across the street from us that has an amazing flower vendor. We got a bunch of them as extras for our wedding. I love heading over there in the morning before my own market day starts for some decorative flowers (for the booth, essential of course) and an almond croissant.
